ADVICE: IE9 not displaying heading ( tags ) in WordPress Blog

The Problem

I have been playing around with Internet Explorer 9 for the past couple of days , I have noticed one major thing, that some WordPress Blogs I visit are not showing the header tags.  It seems 1 in 3 sites are affected (that I use) , so I cannot imagine how big this ‘issue’ is.

I have found the answer, it seems to be any website that the blog theme uses the Cufon Font generator to create custom fonts. It seems the version of Cufon the site has does not work with IE9 (see link to the Cufon web site below).  I think that the title(heading) “bombs out” because the base H1 title displays and then the Cufon Javascript tries to replace it and bombs while doing so.

The Fix

This fix has worked for me on my website ( Caravan In Brean ) and was very simple to apply , firstly download the latest cufon font js from here (you may need to right click and save link/target as , else you will see a page of writing) or grab the .zip from us here.

Now replace the existing cufon-yui.js file on your folder, for most WordPress installations this can be found in wp-content/themes/YOURTHEME/js/

This has worked for every site I own that was affected by this issue/bug I hope it works for yours too.

Wow – thanks for the tip! I kept getting a call from my brother saying people were complaining that they couldn’t see what he was talking about when he told them where to go on his site. Ha I din’t put two and two together until I decided to load IE9 myself to test (as I am a big fan of Chrome,Firefox, and Rockmelt).

Glad your article was listed in Google search. Keep up the good work!

Thanks very much for the info. I am using the Calypso theme, modified, and just when the site goes live I spotted the Headers issue. I have never invested so much time in one site, between one thing and another(TimThumb). Nearly there though.
    Cheers again

  • Mark November 15, 2011 2:51:am

I am having this same problem. I have read the fixes to it. However, i am very much a novice with WordPress. How and where do i access wp-content/themes/YOURTHEME/js/ to do the fix. Help Please.

  • Nerds 4 U November 15, 2011 11:28:am

    Hi Mark
When you ftp into your webspace you pop into the installation directory , then into wp-content then themes then the folder of the theme you are using then the js folder….

If your installation was already set up , then please use the REMOTE ASSISTANCE link and one of the operators can assist you.
